Hearing Solutions has been serving East Texas and West Louisiana’s hearing healthcare needs since 1998. We’re proud to say that many of our patients drive a distance to come see us because they trust us and are satisfied with how we treat them. Our patients are not just customers, we take as much time as we need to listen to and respond to our patients’ concerns.
Hearing Solutions was originally founded by Susan Cowgill, who built a reputation of respect and high-quality service for years. Now that tradition is carried on by Dr. Karen Mills, who is honored to be entrusted with the care of Susan Cowgill’s patients.
Meet the Hearing Solutions Team
Karen Mills

Dr. Karen Mills was born and raised in Groves, Texas, just two hours from Hemphill. Her interest in helping those with hearing loss began at an early age when she befriended childhood neighbors who were profoundly deaf. She initially went to school intending to go into deaf education, but she found that audiology was a better fit for her. She graduated from Lamar University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders in 1983 and her master’s in Audiology in 1987. She obtained her Doctor of Audiology degree from A.T. Still University in 2004. After she earned her master’s, she worked at private ear-nose-throat clinics and hospital clinics before getting to know the founders of Hearing Solutions, and eventually taking over their practice when they chose to retire.
Dr. Mills is proud to be a member actively involved in the Hemphill community. She serves as Vice President of the Sabine County Chamber of Commerce, she is on the Board for the Great East Texas Outdoor Fest, and she participates in the Sabine County Economic Development Advisory Counsel. She is also an active member of the Hemphill Lion’s Club. Dr. Mills comes from a military family (her father was in the army and her grandfather was in the navy), and she’s very proud to be part of the Veterans’ Choice program and provide hearing services to veterans around the area.

Hearing Aid Specialist for Clear Choice Hearing
In 2013 Susan moved Clear Choice Hearing Solutions from Gibson Street to its current location at 530 S. Wheeler into a larger, and more modern space. While the walls may be brighter and the location larger, the same honest, sincere approach remains the Clear Choice way.
As Susan looks forward to the future and retirement, she is excited to bring ownership of Clear Choice Hearing Solutions to someone who can truly appreciate and continue her tradition of providing outstanding care to her patients through the coming years.
